JOE RUGGIERO |
One of the most trusted names in
design, Joe Ruggiero is perhaps best
known for his design work on the PBS
show, “This Old House.” These days,
though, you can see him as the host
of HGTV’s “Homes Across America.” He
has also hosted and produced several
other design shows, and served as
the design correspondent for
ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America.” In
2000, Ruggiero launched Home
Collection with Norwalk Furniture
Corporation.
Bella: What will you talk
about at the Expo?
Ruggiero: I believe people want
inspirations from all over the
country. This I have learned from
producing my show for HGTV, "Homes
Across America." Everyone loves to
see how other people decorate their
homes, what problems they
encountered and how they overcame
those problems with great design. I
will be talking about decorating
with Sunbrella Fabrics, which were
inspired by present-day culture and
lifestyles. Plus, I will be sharing
my room designs via pictures of the
many rooms I have designed from
Coast to Coast.
Bella: How can women find
their own style preferences?
Ruggiero: I believe women can get a
good idea of their style preference
by paging through decorating
magazines and tearing pages of rooms
they love. Establish folders for:
bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens,
bathrooms, outdoor rooms etc. As you
build these ideas, you will
certainly see a trend of the colors
and room designs you like, and this
will provide a "road map" for your
own personal style.
Bella: What are three words of
advice for women giving their homes
a finished look?
Ruggiero: I have always called it
the Burger King theory of decorating
— “Have it your way!” Sorry, I guess
that's four words. How about, “Have
your way!”
Bella: What are your future
plans?
Ruggiero: I am currently working on
an idea for PBS. I am also adding to
my furniture collections as well. I
want to really help people enjoy
their homes and continue to bring
inspiration to those that need to
find the joy of decorating their
spaces no matter how large or small
they may be.
